September heralds canning, bringing in the harvest for the winter around Wisconsin homes. Tomatoes, squash, onions, and the last of the potatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and beans abound. The women gather to put down the garden fruit of their labors, and to share the burden of work that the garden takes to provide for families all winter and spring long. Some of the tasty things we put up are sunflower seeds and that is why sunflowers herald Autumn and all that the shortening days bring. There is wood to lay up for the wood stove besides taking the last picnics and hikes in the woods. September will see a few more weeks of swimming pool weather but then it will be done until next year. Winter clothes will be taken out of storage, and summer clothes packed away. Autumn is the time for preparing for the cold winter weather coming all too soon, but at the same time, it is the start of the holidays. Soon Halloween will be here then Thanksgiving and when the days are at their shortest, Christmas and the hope of our Savior's birth and it always makes me long for Him to return now as triumphant King, not the humble servant this time.

I hope my sunflowers will bring forth many good Autumn memories and also help you create new ones for the future. The sunflower pots are my salute to the end of summer days and the onset of Autumn!

To show you how the lower case in the sunflower colors look with the capitals, here is my way of using it on my daughter's quilt. Ofcourse you do not have to stitch them out this way, you can make the lower case letters the same as the numbers or upper case letters in the 2 shades of green. My daughter always makes me smile as she is a very happy person, just like sunflowers make me smile, so for Ida, these are perfect colors!

Set 9, Block 12, Sunflower Coasters
Here are 6 unique sunflower coasters. They are so happy and sunny! I stitched these 3.90x3.90 inch designs out on white felt that OVER WHICH I put solvy, and then I stitched each one out, once like they design is, then when done I stitched each one out again, after mirroring the design so that I ended up with 12 coasters, The coasters are all actually FSL but I prefer to stitch them out so that the felt protects the end tables and coffee table top surfaces. You could also use the plastic clothe you can buy from your favorite material store instead of the solvy which makes the coasters both a protection for over the wood table tops and a moisture barrier between your cup or bottle and your table top. Coasters are such a decorative way to share your theme of the season. I just love coasters. These 6 coasters sell for $10.00
